CYBERSECURITY COMMITTEE

COMMITTEE ACTION PLAN

Who We Are

Members of the Cybersecurity Committee are accounting and information technology professionals that specialize in or have an interest in information security, privacy, risk, reporting and disposal of information and their respective impact in the accounting profession.

What We Do

The objective of this committee is to provide a forum for addressing the technical, educational and professional needs of the Society membership specifically related to the growing need of cybersecurity education and understanding in the accounting profession.

The committee undertakes the following activities to meet this stated objective:

         Holds regularly scheduled meetings to discuss recent technical, legislative and industry related developments including presentations by subject matter experts and industry professionals.

         Includes an open forum in each meeting to discuss pressing issues that our members deal with at their respective places of employment.

         Supports the Society in identifying and educating emerging technical cybersecurity issues and how they relate to the accounting profession.

         Establishes committee liaisons with other Society committees where applicable.

         Presents CPE technical sessions for the Society.

         Sponsors a conference each year, featuring relevant industry speakers, for members and interested parties.

         Contributes articles to Society publications.

         Addresses technical questions from Society members.

         Proposes and drafts comment letters to authoritative and regulatory bodies on relevant regulatory, compliance and cybersecurity issues.

         Assimilate future and current Society members such as accounting and business scholars in the Committee’s activity.

Who Should Join

Society members with expertise or an interest in cybersecurity and information technology should consider joining this committee. Membership provides a unique opportunity to network with other professionals in the field as well as to support the Society and the profession.
