Looking forward to many upcoming events and CPE opportunities

By Robert J. Huether, CPA

Suffolk Chapter President

I hope everyone has had a fantastic summer and found time to enjoy some very well-deserved time off to relax, travel, and/or spend time with family and friends. As summer is winding down and we are full steam ahead to fall, I look forward to the many upcoming events and CPE opportunities that the Suffolk Chapter will be offering.

On Aug. 24, the Suffolk Chapter hosted its annual membership event at the Sand City Brewery in Lindenhurst, which was a great way to wind down the summer and get professionals engaged in our chapter. The event also allowed members to meet with some of our Suffolk Chapter leadership team.

Looking ahead to the coming months, we have a great agenda of events that you do not want to miss. If you are looking for opportunities to network with our chapter and professionals across a wide array of industries and disciplines, you certainly do not want to miss out on our 11th Annual Supersized Networking Event, to be held on Sept. 21, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., at the Piermont in Babylon. This event is co-hosted by the Nassau Chapter and has been, and continues to be, our premier networking event of the season.

I want to extend my deepest gratitude to KPMG LLP, Cardona & Company, DSJ Advisory Group LLC and CFGI for joining us and sponsoring this highly anticipated networking event. We do have other sponsorship opportunities available, so If anybody knows of other firms or organizations interested in sponsorship, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly to discuss.

I am also very excited and encouraged to see many of our Suffolk Chapter committees putting on great technical events, such as the “Top Defined Contribution Plan Trends and Developments” CPE session hosted by the Employee Benefits Committee this past May.

We will continue to offer many other great CPE opportunities for our members over the next few months, including the following:

1) “Legislative Updates Impacting New York CPAs” CPE session hosted by the General Taxation Committee on Sept. 26;

2) “Nonprofit Accounting and Auditing Update” on Sept. 27;

3) “Tax & Estate Planning for Retirement” CPE session hosted by the Estate/Financial Planning Committee on Oct.26;

4) Annual Nassau/Suffolk All-Day Accounting and Auditing Conference on Nov. 10; and

5) Annual All-Day Nassau/Suffolk Chapter Tax Conference on Nov. 30.

In addition to these great events that I have highlighted above, please stay tuned for other fantastic offerings that we are currently in the process of putting together for the remainder of the fiscal year.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the members who have participated and helped to promote our events and more importantly, the Suffolk Chapter executive officers, board and committee chairs, because without their leadership, we would not be able to put on such great events for the membership.

Obviously, the goal of our Suffolk Chapter is to support our members and provide assistance in any way that we can. As such, I encourage and welcome all feedback that you may have on things that you would like to see from the Suffolk Chapter moving forward. I hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe end of summer and beginning of fall!
