Looking forward to the year ahead
By TREVOR J. LEHMAN
Syracuse Chapter President
I am pleased to be serving as president of the Syracuse Chapter for this upcoming fiscal year. When I first joined the NYSSCPA, I became a member of the chapter’s NextGen Committee, and it served as a good introduction to the many opportunities and benefits that the Society provides to the CPA profession in our region. A year and a half later, I was asked to serve as a board member, and, at that time, the thought never crossed my mind of possibly, one day, becoming president and leading this great chapter. A year after that, I was asked to serve as the chapter secretary, and that was when the true journey began. It is amazing how time flies over the years. I feel as though I have grown so much serving as an officer in the chapter, and the experience has been absolutely priceless. Doing so has improved my abilities in networking and communication, which has translated to enormous success within my professional development.
The Syracuse Chapter has a reputation of being very active, as well as offering several events for chapter members, whether it be networking events, CPE seminars or charitable endeavors that help not only CPAs in our chapter, but also the general public and the community within our region. Our organization makes membership available to any person who wants to contribute to the success of our profession, from high school and college students to CPA firm owners and retired professionals. The NYSSCPA is also unique in the different areas of practice among its members, from public accountancy to the private sector to the world of academia. There is always something for everybody with membership in the NYSSCPA.
In closing, I would like to say that it truly is an honor and a privilege to serve this great chapter and to lead it forward for this upcoming year. Growing up in a small town in Lewis County, I was taught many personal values, such as commitment, dedication, a strong work ethic, integrity and authenticity. These are all strong traits, which I hope to display as chapter president, and my goal is that we can be an even stronger chapter than we are now. I look forward to working for and serving all of you, and together, we can make this powerful profession even better and an attractive option for students to enter in the future.
